The Fileflare app allows you (the store) to send digital products to your customers with ease. You’re here because you are most probably wanting to bulk-send digital products to a bunch of your customers who may have previously purchased a product.
Please use this guide if you are looking to send bulk emails/notifications for digital downloads to your customers.
What you need:
- A functioning Shopify store
- The Fileflare app is installed on your store on the Basic plan or higher. Already installed? Upgrade here.
- A digital product
There’s no limit to how many customers you can bulk-send an email or digital product to. As long as the customer has previously purchased the product, they will receive the notification using our methods below.
Remember, you need a paid plan for Fileflare for any of these methods to work. If you’re on the free plan, you can use a 7-day trial to temporarily upgrade while you perform the action.
How to bulk-send digital downloads to customers
– using customer account downloads, you can inform all of your customers that they can access the files in their customer account.
– using the “Replace asset” function on an individual asset can allow you to resend a download email to all customers who have bought that product that the asset is attached to.
– using the “Release date” function on an individual asset can allow you to send a download email to all customers who had bought that product that the asset is attached to once the release date has been reached. This will need to be done one asset at a time.
Method 1 – Using customer account downloads
What do I need?
- You will need the Premium plan to unlock the delivery of downloads in the customers’ accounts. Already installed? Upgrade here.
- You will also need to be using the Classic Customer Accounts by Shopify. Shopify does not allow the New Customer Accounts to work with apps.
- This method works when customers have ordered multiple assets in a single order
How does this work?
This method works by informing your customers that they can access their downloads inside their customer account order pages. You will need to inform them using your email marketing software or similar to login or create an account using the same email that they used for the order.
Step 1 – Enable customer account downloads & load previous orders
To start, you will need to enable customer accounts feature in both Shopify settings, and in Fileflare settings.
In Shopify
- Go to the Shopify admin
- Go to “Settings“
- Go to “Customer accounts“
- Click “Edit” on the top section
- Enable the “Show login link in the header of online store and at checkout” feature
- Make sure you select the “Classic customer accounts“. Shopify does not allow apps to work with New customer accounts.
In Fileflare
You will need to enable the customer account downloads feature by going to:
- Go to the Fileflare app
- Go to Settings
- Go to Checkout settings
- Enable “Display download links on the customer accounts order page” and follow the steps in the yellow box to complete the setup
- Also, make sure you import all previous orders that were placed before installing Fileflare. This will import all your store’s historic orders so Fileflare can provide to them.
Step 2 – Inform customers in bulk
What will happen is this feature that you have just enabled will show the digital downloads inside all of your customers’ accounts. That means any customer in your store will be able to log in and find their downloads.
To send a bulk email to everyone who has ordered this asset, you will need to make sure that the asset is attached to the correct Shopify product that everyone has ordered. If the asset is attached to the Shopify product, then all customers who ordered it will see the asset in their accounts.
Load up your email marketing software
Simply use your email marketing software (Klaviyo or similar) to inform your chosen list of customers that they can access their downloads in their accounts.
Some customers may not have created an account, so you will need to tell them that they can create an account using the email that they used for the order, and all of their orders will automatically appear in their account. This is the way Shopify Classic Customer Accounts work.
Method 2 – Release Date
What do I need?
- You will need the Premium plan to unlock the Release date feature.
- This only works with one asset at a time. You cannot send a single email with multiple assets
The release date method in Fileflare will bulk-send a download email to everyone who has bought the Shopify product that the asset which has a release date is attached to.
Step 1 – Load previous orders (if you haven’t already)
- Go to the Fileflare app
- Go to Settings
- Go to Import all previous orders
- Click the “Import” button
This will import all orders from your Shopify store so that you can deliver files to any orders that were placed before Fileflare was installed.
Step 2 – Customize your “Pre-order” email template
Now, you will need to customize the email template that will be sent to your customers. You can do this by:
- Go to the Fileflare app
- Go to Settings
- Go to “Edit email templates“
- Select “Pre-order template“
This is the template that will be sent with any assets that have a release date set.
Step 3 – Go to your asset & set a release date
The aim here is to set a release date on your asset for when you want the bulk email to be triggered and sent. Once the release date is reached, emails will be sent to everyone who has ordered the Shopify products that the asset is attached to.
You will need to make sure that everything is set up correctly and that you have done all you need to do before the release date is reached.
Step 4 – Done
Now there are a few things you should understand:
Email Tracking
You can see all the data and deliveries for the “Asset updated” or “Release date” emails by going to either:
- Go to the “Customer emails” section on the Settings page.
- Go to the customer’s Order page and scroll to the bottom to see “Email tracking”.
Order page fulfilment note
On the Order list page, if there has not been the normal download email sent with the order, and still see an “X” in the email dispatched column. This column is strictly just showing whether the Fulfilment email has been sent, not the “Asset replace” or “Release date” emails.
Even if you sent either the “Asset replace” or “Release date” emails, then the X will still show.
Method 3 – File replace “Replace asset” function
- You will need the Basic plan to unlock the Replace asset feature.
- This only works with one asset at a time. You cannot send a single email with multiple assets
The replace asset method in Fileflare will bulk-send a download email to everyone who has bought the Shopify product that the asset is attached to.
Step 1 – Load previous orders (if you haven’t already)
- Go to the Fileflare app
- Go to Settings
- Go to Import all previous orders
- Click the “Import” button
This will import all orders from your Shopify store so that you can deliver files to any orders that were placed before Fileflare was installed.
Step 2 – Edit the “File replace” email template
Now, you will need to customize the email template that will be sent to your customers. You can do this by:
- Go to the Fileflare app
- Go to Settings
- Go to “Edit email templates“
- Click on the “File Replace template” and customize it to suit your needs.
Step 3 – Go to your asset & click “Replace asset”
In Fileflare, you will need to go to the asset that you want to deliver to everyone. Make sure it is attached to the Shopify product that your customers have ordered to get this asset.
- Once you are on the asset page, click the “Replace asset” button
- Re-upload the same asset
- When you follow the next step, you will be asked if you want to inform your customers that there is an update. Click “Yes”. Once you proceed, Fileflare will send new download emails to everyone who has ordered the Shopify product that this asset is attached to.
